That's how it sounded when I first heard it. After I heard the song a few times I just gave up trying to work out what the words really were. About 10 years I looked the lyrics up in a songbook. Maybe if I'd read the book...

when she sings 'my only master' I swear she sings "my only barstard" which makes sense because lovers have their disagreements too.
