The story:
I think everyone mishears the lyrics to this song, even if they don't realize it. (I guess they also misidentify the artist, too; Edwin McCain wrote and sang it first. The Goo Goo Dolls covered the song more recently).
This song was out when I was in elementary school, so I guess at that age it didn't occur to me that a song about a dragon's shoulder would be weird. Even now as an adult I like the imagery; a dragon's shoulder has got to be pretty strong, right? I also prefer "love's silver side" because it sounds so much more positive (and makes more sense, honestly) than "suicide." Additionally "greatest man of your life" sounds stronger than "fan." So I still usually sing it my way-- mostly because I usually forget which is actually the right way.
