    The story:

I had my earphones on and was singing while doing
yard work. My brother came over and said -what did
you just say?!? He said how on earth did you come up
with that? But when we listened to it you could hear
my lyric too. Like the ghost EVPs I guess this is
one song you can mishear several ways.

This is a great story. I've just gone to listen to the song as I'd "love" to hear it that way! I've seen a Youtube video that has the lyrics and also checked a number of lyrics sites, and the lyric that you "misheard" it as turns out to be the true lyric. The lyric that you give as the true lyric is the lyric used in the clean version of the song. D'oh! I've just ruined this as it is an extremely funny story. (Ignore me.) It seems you may have been looking at the clean version lyrics when checking the true lyric! Unless you are listening to the clean version and mishearing it, coincidentally, as the lyric they originally intended it to be. You're right - the "misheard" (or correctly heard?) lyric is a better lyric, so, listen to the explicit version!
