My favourite song is Ticket to Ride by the Beatles. I love the sonic guitar in it, the bridge, the whiny singing and the way the opening just kicks off the song. Brilliant. Never gets old.
If This is It by guitarist Newton Faulkner is also in my top five, a song released... only months ago (September 2009). Incredible that a song from a modern era is one of my favourites, as I have a hatred of almost everything modern, including pretty much all rap and hip-hop, as well as annoying, directionless girly crap like stuff by Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga.
But If This is It is perfection: A song which cannot be, in any way, improved. A calming acoustic song which achieves its goal, to teach people to enjoy life while it lasts, as when its over, you can't go back.
But apart from the Fab Four and Newton, my other favourite acts are the the Stones, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel, ELO, the Bee Gees, Motown and loads more. I also adore game music, especially from the original Spyro trilogy, the Pokémon games (notably Diamond and Pearl, heh) and of course, Mario.
And that's me - I have a passion for music, hearing music, making music, and discovering new music. To me, Miley Cyrus's excuses for songs don't exist, I enjoy music that has meaning, makes me happy, and is all-around clever, catchy and unforgettable. But I love misheard lyrics too. After all, even good songs can have the mickey taken out of them. |
