| Real Lyric | When I was driven from my home by an oppressor's Hand, I cut my sticks and greased my brogues, and came o'er to this land And the verse: Now when the traitors in the south commenced a warlike raid, I quickly laid down my hod, to the devil went my spade!, To a recruiting office then I went, that happened to be near, And joined the good old "Sixty-Ninth" like an Irish volunteer |

the words "and the verse" are not the lyrics but
saying that I misherd two different verses in this
song. Firstly I can still make out "Anna precious"
but know now the right lyrics
I can still hear "Spenna went" and often wondered
who this "spenna" guy was who joined with the Irish
Sixty-Ninth as many of the people David Kincaid sand
about on his two Civil War albums were real people.
