Actually, it was my friend and next-door neighbor Gary who misheard them. His wife, his sister, his neighbors--everyone tried to convince him he was wrong. Despite the fact that everyone was dancing The Hustle those days, he just wouldn't budge. (But I think inside he knew he was wrong!) Answers below are what he would say, I think.
