Listening to the Police's greatest hits on CD, I softly sang my misheard lyric. My wife looked at me and said, "What?!?" After she told me the correcrt lyric, I told her I'd always assumed Sting was throwing in an "Alice in Wonderland" reference to match the nightmarish imagery in the rest of the song.
"Yeah ... whatever," was her reply.
