How to read

The story:

I was in my car, and singing this song at the top of my lungs when I realised the window was down, and the car stopped at the lights next to me had a bunch of people in it. They were laughing at me, and I thought it was because I was singing. Then one of them called out to me about getting some glasses and a hearing aid. I was confused, because the lyrics didn't mention anything about not hearing. It was weeks later that my friend filled me in on the correct lyrics.
