The story:

I first heard the song from someone's home-made cassette tape; no song titles let alone lyrics written down - sound 'quality left something to be desired. it's strange how sometimes the first thing you think of when hearing something can stick in your mind and sort of turns you deaf to what is actually sung. Mark Knopfler being a notorious mumbler in his songs, it wasn't until I actually read the lyrics several weeks later that I found out exactly what he was singing.
