The story:

It was actually from listening to the acoustic version of the song from "Music in High Places." I was singing along, since I love the song, and without knowing it I sang the correct lyric. I listened to it again without singing, and Scott Russo clearly sang "ain't always true" so I checked the liner notes of "Elva" and sure enough, I'd been singing it wrong for as long as I had the album! I literally slapped myself on the forehead.
