The story:

It just seemed like a much more juvenile version of
the lyric that my adolescent brain must have heard
at the time. Doesn't it ring so much simpler as a
chain on an abandoned playground? The image in
itself is just that much more bitter/sweet.

As far as Eddie's annunciation goes, though, it's a
miracle I get even half his words right!
