I was singing in the car, like I always do. "Ride Like the Wind" came on, and I was belting it out, and I guess for the first time thinking about the song's story, when it hit me.....duh, it's border of Mexico, not corner!! While I am sure there are corners of Mexico (places no one wants to go) if he is running away, he wants to cross the BORDER not the corner. And I have been singing this for probably 30 years the wrong way!
