I always liked my interpretation, and would get lots of laughs when I sang the song, so I never bothered to inquire about the real lyrics. Nobody ever corrected me, which I thought was even funnier. Then, one day, in the mid-80's, I was in a karaoke bar and watched the correct lyrics appear on the screen. It was a bit of a let down actually!
