I had recorded this song on a cheap audio tape when it first came on 'top of the pops' with the tape recorder placed at the side of the speaker on the TV.
I thought it was a French song!
I realised I had misheard the lyrics when I was singing along with my tape recorder with a few friends in the park a few months later. But I insisted to the group that I was right and they were wrong. In the end we all laughed about it and from then on always sang A pom pa lom ana pa lom wah along to the song when we were together.
