The Story: Don't eat the fruit in the garden, Eden,, It wasn't in God's natural plan., You were only a rib,, And look at what you did,, To Adam, the father of Man.
The Story: You smell like goat, I'll see you in hell
My very first cassette tape was called POP SHOP
and my very first tape recorder was exactly that,
a tape RECORDER. That is to say it had only one
speaker, took either four or six C-cells and was
good for about four hours of continuous playback.
Any eighties child knows the rectangular brick I'm
talking about with the chunky buttons and the
record button that had to be pressed
simultaneously as the play button.
By the time I got my first stereo headphones (a
genuine vintage SONY WALKMAN) the tape had
stretched considerably and Sting was sounding more
and more like Louis Armstrong!
One day the song came on the radio and I was
singing my guts outs out, waiting for the part
where Sting, looking like Robinson Crusoe on his
little island, breaks his nose (on the ubiquitous
palm tree you always find on deserted Islands), a
part which I always sung in complete earnestness
as I imagined it would hurt quite a bit.
Well, my friends fell about laughing and only
after collecting themselves did they politely
point out that "a year has passed since I wrote my
note".
This was at least ten or so years after I had
first bought the tape!
