"All my life I've never felt the sun or country air. Sunlight at dawn. The Bureau of Landscape, every bird beware."

    Artist: Rush
Real Lyric: "Well-weathered leather. Hot metal and oil. The scented country air. Sunlight on chrome, the blur of the landscape. Every nerve aware."

    The story:

This is the third mondegreen I've squeezed out of this song and it really just horrifies me now, given what a big Rush fan I consider myself, how many of these lyrics I had mixed up.

So one day in a music store I found a book of Rush sheet music and lyrics. I started looking through it and when I realized how many of these words I'd been misunderstanding over the years I made a point of snatching the book up right there to avoid any future embarrasment, other than on this website.

I actually think these lyrics work pretty well except for the "bureau of landscape" part, which doesn't fit in well with the rest of it. As for "every bird beware", I had believed for a long time that this song was about a kid riding a bicycle, and he suddenly decided to start running into birds once he got a good burst of speed. WHAMMO!
