I was a kid, listening to the song off an old cassette tape my mom had made, played on an old beat-up tape player. I'd always wondered what a cherry shoe was, until my stepfather's younger brother informed me that the name of the song was "Cherish."
Meanwhile, I'd been singing it for several years as "cherry shoe."
