The story:

Courtesy of my mother, who combined this with another
common mondegreen ("Gladly the cross-eyed bear") to create a
scenario for a church mystery hunt: a boy named Andy has lost
his cross-eyed teddy bear, Gladly. The objective was to find
Gladly from clues provided, one of which gave this version of
the line as a "communication" from Gladly. The age listed was
my mother's age at the time.
