We had a car with an AM-only radio growing up and the only
station we got had a repertoire of 20 songs, this being one. So
for much of my childhood, I thought people gave piles of love.
It wasn't until I heard the saw the video on VH1 and saw the
title that I realized what was going on.
I think my mishearing was justified. Winwood's singing is
unintelligible.
