The story:

I grew up listening to my parents' Simon and Garfunkel albums. I can't remember not knowing their songs. So I suppose I picked up these false lyrics before I understood what it meant to be "convicted," or what a "jury" was. I taught these lyrics to my younger siblings, and blithely sang along loudly, using these lyrics, until near the end of high school, when someone confronted me with my error and corrected me. Those lyrics which had seemed normal and sensible to me all my life were suddenly so obviously glaringly strange and out of place!
