Carry a gun in your hand

The story:

My husband and I were driving home and the song was playing on the DVD player, which I was singing along to. When it came up to that part I sang the misheard lyric and my husband told me that it was 'cup' no 'gun'. The next morning I went online to look up the lyrics for both The Bangles and the original Simon and Garfunkle. The problem is that some sites for The Bangles said 'gun' and some sites said 'cup'. The original version is 'cup'. We then went downstairs and listened to The Bangles on the computer and as I was listening closely it definitely was 'cup'. My husband told me that for many years he thought it was 'gun', even on Simon and Garfunkles original, so I don't feel so stupid.
