Just the light bulb going off over my head, lol. I was probably 6 years old when I first heard the song, and played a 45 of it constantly on an old record player after my older brother left for Vietnam. I didn't really understand the significance of the lyric, but Hogan's Heros was a big hit on TV at the time, so the German reference made more sense to me.
