It wasn't me but my stepson (at about age 14) who mentioned something about the "Curtis" in the song having an "Afro" (exaggeratedly full haircut). When questioned further, he explained:
"Well, yeah, they talk about it in the song. You know the part that says he had 'wide, curly hair' and then the song goes on to say:
'. . .Play me a song,
Curtis' 'fro, Curtis' 'fro. . .' "
