And, da***t, Fare thee well, John Wayne still makes more sense to me. The rest of the song fits perfectly with John Wayne's role in The Quiet Man, which has him in Ireland as a boxer who killed a man in the ring and is just crawling with the kind of Irishphilia that the Pogues love to mock!
