I was taught this song in elementary school, and I always wondered who this Nick was, and why we were supposed to "lee" and "la" for him, whatever that meant. I thought that possibly it was Saint Nick (Santa Claus). I was relieved when I realized that it was not about lee-ing and la-ing for Nick after all.
