I like your misheard better, in a way, though not in the context of the song. But one of the things I'd do if I could change history is...make Jews multiply, even greater than before! This would begin in early medieval eastern Europe, among the eastern Slavs (Russians, Ukrainians, and Belorussians). A reform-minded rabbi is the instigator, and he seeks converts to Judaism, and is highly successful at it too! A high percentage of Russians, Ukrainians, and Belorussians convert, and this process takes storm elsewhere beginning in the early Renaissance.
