British versus American usage again. At the time in Britain we didn't refer to A.M. radio - our term for what Americans call A.M. was "Medium Wave". And "Roadrunner" is such a "stream of random consciousness" song that it's hard to make coherent sense of it in normal circumstances.
So this line was a guy who manages the stellar achievement of switching the car radio on while driving, and who is admirably modest about drawing this to our attention. "I've got the {{ahem}} radio on", with a little socially acceptable modest cough, the "ahem" bit. Not to blow his own trumpet or fish for compliments or anything, but he managed tro turn the car radio on! Makes sense, if you're British....
