I was helping my brother, who's new to English, figure out the words to all of U2's songs. Everything went pretty good, until I got to this verse. I wasn't really sure I was right, but it kinda made sense. I figured, "You know, his girlfriend's a drunk, and he ends up getting black eyes from it, right?" Guess not. My brother had the strangest look on his face, then said "That's like the only part of the song I know." Then he told me the real words. That was weird. Oh well.
