I heard the song this way for decades (literally) and wondered what the hell a "gold tattoo" was. Then I went to work for a store with a good stereo system which blared oldies all day. I finally discovered that it had been a tooth.
P.S.: I notice some lyrics sites name "Madam Rue" though none seem to have heard about her tattoo.
