If you cling to tar pits, you're going to lose control.

The story:

I was in high school way back in the 80s when you had to LISTEN to lyrics to figure out what they were saying. I had to give a speech on the lyrics of a song and what they meant. My best friend and I listened to this song over and over, and finally decided that it made sense that the song said "If you cling to tar pits, you're going to lose control." I mean, look what happened to the dinosaurs?? The tar pits weren't too good for them... nor for clingy boyfriends. I stood up and explained each line of the song, and when I got to this one I was laughed out of the classroom. It's still one of my favorite misheard lyrics.
