I'm only bringing salt tonight

The story:

The lyrics I thought I was hearing were so daft that they couldn't possibly be real, but it didn't sound like anything else to me, so for a long time I was happy enough with them. (I didn't like the song anyway, it was overplayed (in the remix form referred to in the title in clubs and bars around the world) and so it provided me with some sort of amusement. I even gave the song its own meaning, as being about someone who was required to bring a bottle of wine to a party, but stubbornly refused to bring anything other than some salt. One day I finally asked a friend what the real lyrics were (she knew a lot more about dance music than me.) I was never embarrassed about it. In fact knowing the real lyrics spoilt all the fun.
