I used to live in the San Francisco area, so as a kid, I thought this song had something to do with the area. Santa Cruz, about 2 hours south of San Francisco, is famous for its Boardwalk and lots of boat-related activities. It wasn't until I heard the song on a pair of headphones that I realized he wasn't talking about any place in particular. :)
