Just to hold you like a dog

The story:

So 29 years after hearing this song for the
first time and then having thought the lyric
was "just to hold you like a dog" every time I
listened to or sang the song, I saw the Cure at
the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX. I texted
my brother a picture of the performance with
the caption "JUST TO HOLD YOU LIKE A DOG!!!"
and my brother texted back and said, "like a
doll." I was like, "what?" and he said, "dude,
it's 'just to hold you like a doll'" and then I
realized that I'd been singing it wrong for 29
years, and the actual lyrics made so much more
sense.
