I had always thought he said "twister" and never questioned it as it was a time of heroin and booze for these singers. The day I finally looked at the lyrics and found he said "drifter" (mind you I'm 23 now and this song came out in 1987!), I made the mistake of telling my husband and he will never let me live this down!
