The Story: Don't eat the fruit in the garden, Eden,, It wasn't in God's natural plan., You were only a rib,, And look at what you did,, To Adam, the father of Man.
The Story: You smell like goat, I'll see you in hell
I only recently saw the lyrics to this song in print, and found out I'd had it wrong all these years! I was always surprised to hear such an anti-Semitic lyric in a Beatles song, but I had heard that John used to needle their manager, Brian Epstein, about his being Jewish, so I thought maybe it was some kind of joke or something.

Knowing John, that probably is what he was singing. He also called Epstein a "rich f*g jew"

Well, he did sing that, instead of "Baby, you're a rich man, too," while in practice, but if you listen to any tapes of unreleased material, he was always cutting up in rehearsals, and no one was safe! But he and Epstein were rather close. In fact, the two traveled together, and when they returned, John reacted very angrily at being joshed about Epstein being "his wife." Some have speculated that there might have been some sort of physical relationship between the two, but I don't take that seriously. There's no evidence that John was actually anti-Semitic, but he had a very biting, sarcastic sense of humor. Just listen to his scathing attacks on Paul on the "Imagine" album, "How Do You Sleep At Night." He clearly didn't really feel THAT hostile to Paul, as later interviews showed. But now, when I listen to those lyrics, I can hear it correctly.
