My sister was BIG into PRINCE in the 1980s, and the reason she mis-heard the Lyrics was that she was perpetually late with her rent where-ever she lived.
I let her sing it her way for a while, since she seemed to like that, but after a randomn attack on me about a trivial issue, I just pointed this out about the song in front of her friends, since she had humiliated me in front of her friends... And she was quiet as a worse. And so our personal vendetta continued.
