The story:

As a young child I had heard that a television, if watched for too many consecutive hours, could explode. I don't think it was my mother who told me this, because I was smart enough to know that any pronouncement on such a matter from my mother was probably untrue. There wasn't a moment when I suddenly realized I was wrong, but as I grew more and more familiar with Dylan's style, I eventually suspected that I was mishearing the lyrics. Repeated listenings of "Before the Flood" didn't resolve the issue - I think I finally consulted a book of Dylan lyrics.
