I was a little kid when I first heard this song. At that time I was not familiar with the expression "wallow in the mire" and I **sumed that there must be some kind of award called "the Meyer." As an adult I was listening to the song after not having heard it in several years, and must have been paying closer attention than usual, because the real lyrics became obvious.
