I knew it had to be wrong but never bothered to look up the lyrics until recently. I had real difficulty hearing and understanding what exactly he was singing. I've heard/sang it that way since I was a kid. Oh, and the "love" was pronounced "La-ooh-uhve" in my version with three distinct syllables. If you sing it that way, I think you will find that it sounds very similar to the lyrics the way Stevie sang them originally. The first few times I sang it in ignorance people laughed but didn't know the correct lyrics to correct me.
