The story:

This is probably the most misheard song I have ever
heard. Allan Clarke's Manchester accent, the
massive slapback echo, and the mixdown make his
lyrics almost intelligible to my ears. Knowing the
Hollies got a bit weird in the 70s, I thought the
Being in the last verse was an alien, turning the
Prohibition Era narrative into Close Encounters
spoof, and Allan was being escorted onto their
space ship. Like I said, weird.

Btw, one of the best guitar tracks ever.
