The story:

When this song was in heavy rotation on the radio in the early 80's I was only like 7 or 8 years old, so when I heard this lyric and tried to make sense of it, abused children was all I could come up with. Needless to say, a 7-year-old does NOT know what "Trojans" means in this context, so of course I couldn't have known!!!!
Since I'd been singing it wrong my whole childhood, I never stopped to consider that the lyric wasn't what I thought, even long after I was old enought to understand what Trojans were...
