The story:

It wasn't so much that I heard the lyrics this way at first, but I really had no idea what he was singing towards the end of the song, and when I remembered it my mind would sort of try to fill in the blank with a couple different renderings. I pictured Marvin's lover safely back at her apartment, sipping on his beer while he wailed in obvious distress.
