The story:

My brother in law at the time was singing this and was belting out
about making fake pets??? I'm like its great pets, and he was like no,
its fake pets, they need to make fake pets they don't have time to
feed them so they're gonna make fake pets
Even thought it was wrong , every time I hear this song now, I think of
fake pets.
