Well, I thought the false lyric made sense at the time because the Nazi's supported the nationalists in the Spanish Civil war, in a way using the battlefield as a testing ground for weapons and military strategies that would be used in second World War.

When I made a concerted effert to learn the lyrics to this song, I was disappointed but not surprised. This song is about evil and death, not an obscure history lesson. So yeah, I feel pretty stupid.
It really shows that I'm a They Might Be Giants fan.
