The story:

I listened to this song time and time again, but try as I might I never could work out what the real lyrics were supposed to have been, so assumed that my version must have been right and that I just wasn't old enough to fully understand their true meaning, even though they made no sense at all. I had no idea who this 'Lucy Scoop' character was. I thought she might have been a friend of Suzie's. And as for a 'fis**ty shop', I'd never seen or heard of one anywhere else ever before, much less understood what it meant to fall asleep 'directly' one. I thought maybe it was some kind of seafood market or something. So I finally gave up trying to understand them and asked my dad what the lyrics were, and he had to slowly repeat them back to me, carefully enunciating every last syllable of every word before I finally understood them! It seems so silly to think of it now, as the words in the song are so clear when I hear them today! Sorry Don! Sorry Phil! My fault entirely!
