The story:

I first heard the song as a kid and that's what I thought she was
singing every time I heard it. I didn't hear the song again for
years (and really didn't think about it) until I was in my late teens
a was going out with the woman who later became my wife.

We were in a restaurant together and the song started playing
on the jukebox and I heard it properly for the first time and
remembered what I had always thought she had been singing
when I was a kid. I burst out laughing suddenly and she wouldn't
leave me alone until I 'fessed up and told her why. She thought
my lyrics were very funny and made for a more interesting song.
