The story:

I always sang it like that when I was a kid... though I always pondered the lyric, wondering why on earth the guy's mouth had been trodden in and how you could possibly remove it with a kiss. Still, I found out by asking my siblings-- bad move, since it became a joke at family parties for a long time to come. Silly me!
