The story:

As a kid, I misheard something from just about every single Alanis song on the radio, and there were a lot of them on then. One day in the car I asked my mom why this guy would wash his hand cream off, since that seems a bit counter-productive. In my defense, I wasn't yet that familiar with the "wash your hands clean of it" idiom!
