The story:
We're talking about the 1950s, before Australia had decimal currency, when the slang term for an Australian pound was a 'quid'.
My brother Lesley was overheard by my parents singing
Away in a manger, no 'quid' for a bed....
The story became family folklore and we embarrassed Les every Christmas, begging him to sing it 'his way' over and over again...
