The story:

I was reading the words to the song, which were included with the liner notes on one of the big collections of Beatles music, and I wondered, What song is this? Then came the dawn. Thankfully, I had never sung these lyrics out loud. Still, "kangaroo days" has a whimsical, creatively surreal quality. Close your eyes, imagine a blazing hot afternoon (I'm from Laredo, Texas, so the heat may have induced my auditory halucination), kangaroos floating across the brush country ... Well -- try it, dammit!
